It’s almost birthday time at my house. Turning 15 is a right of passage in this household. It is when you get to learn to how to drive with your mother. I have had the privilege of teaching both kids how to drive, since their father the mechanic can’t stand the thought of slamming brakes, missed gears and curb hitting.
This time it is my daughter who is turning 15 in a couple of weeks. So what do you get a girl who has everything? I mean everything she could possibly need or want. I can’t remember when the wants melded into needs or vice versa but it has happened.
This is a girl who is never seen without her hairbrush. I mean they are lying all over the house,in several different colors to match her outfits. They are also nowhere to be found when she needs one. She has been known to be late for school because of the misplaced brush and this in turn makes me late for work. Anyway back to this present buying problem.
I have just spent the last two days looking for the perfect gift. I even went to the biggest shopping mall in the state. I came home today exhausted and without a present. My son being aware of my bitchiness because of this problem came up with a brilliant idea.
He said, “Mom, why don’t you look on Ebay, I mean if people can sell body parts then I am sure you will find something she will like.”
I hugged him and said “I knew I had you for a reason” and then we both laughed ourselves into tears.
Later that night after she had gone to bed, I got on the website. It did not take me long before I spotted in big bold letters FOR THE GIRL WHO HAS EVERYTHING. It was perfect, absolutely perfect. I put in my bid, a rather high one at that and then paced the floor and chained smoked until the auction was over.
I nervously went back to the computer, put in my password and there it was, NebraskaNancy the lucky winner of a multicolored hairbrush complete with pager.
